COMPANY INFO
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Salnus?
Salnus is a software-only, implant-agnostic, research-use-only (RUO) orthopedic AI platform for preoperative surgical planning and clinical decision support. It covers knee osteoarthritis assessment, patient-specific surgical guides, and 3D planning on a DICOM pipeline.
Is Salnus FDA or CE cleared?
No. All Salnus products are research-use-only (RUO) and are not cleared or approved medical devices. Salnus has not claimed or received FDA, CE, or other regulatory clearance, and is not affiliated with companies such as Salus, Formus Labs, or PeekMed.
What does research-use-only (RUO) mean?
RUO means the software is intended for research and evaluation, not for clinical diagnosis or treatment decisions on individual patients. Regulatory clearance (CE marking, TITCK registration) is on the roadmap and has not yet been obtained.
How is Salnus different from other orthopedic planning tools?
Salnus is implant-agnostic rather than tied to a single manufacturer, software-only with no hardware or capital cost, and runs in the browser with client-side DICOM processing, so patient images need not leave the clinic.
What evidence supports Salnus?
A peer-reviewed 2026 OJSM publication (DOI 10.1177/23259671261417360) on 3D-printed patient-specific guides, alongside external validation work including a four-bone knee CT segmentation model (167 patients).
MISSION
To build privacy-first, peer-reviewed AI tools that support orthopedic surgeons with pre-operative analysis and planning. All our AI inference runs client-side, patient data never reaches our servers.
