TotalSegmentator CT Dataset
TotalSegmentator is a large CT dataset containing whole-body examinations and reference segmentations of bones, organs, muscles and other anatomical structures. Its musculoskeletal labels include vertebrae, ribs, scapulae, clavicles, humeri, femora, hip bones and sacrum. Additional structures, including several appendicular bones, are provided through separately licensed subtasks.
The main TotalSegmentator CT dataset is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0), which permits commercial reuse with attribution. However, additional TotalSegmentator subtasks may have separate licensing conditions. In particular, the appendicular_bones task, which includes structures such as the patella, tibia and fibula, requires a separate license; non-commercial licenses are available free of charge, while commercial use requires a commercial license.
Zenodo version 3.0.0 reports 1939 CT images and segmentations of 117 anatomical structures. The unique number of subjects is not explicitly reported, so num_subjects is null. Here num_images represents CT volumes or examinations, not individual axial slices. The 2023 publication describes an earlier version containing 104 structures. Licensing was checked at both the main dataset and subtask levels: the main Zenodo dataset is CC BY 4.0, but the appendicular_bones subtask has separate non-commercial and commercial licensing conditions. Therefore, commercial_use is classified as mixed.
